Great Crosby Catholic Primary aims to make the school a place where the Gospel values of our Lord Jesus Christ are taught, lived and experienced, where prayer and celebrations are integral to life and where religious growth and development are stimulated within the total curriculum to which all can contribute and from which all can gain.

Our mission statement is displayed all over the school and is the foundation of our daily life.
Catholic social teaching (CST) is rooted in Scripture, formed by the wisdom of Church leaders, and influenced by grassroots movements. It is our moral compass, guiding us on how to live out our faith in the world.
There are seven principles of Catholic Social Teaching:
Our faith calls us to love God and to love our neighbours in every situation, especially our sisters and brothers living in poverty. Following in the footsteps of Christ, we hope to make present in our unjust and broken world, the justice, love and peace of God.

Great Crosby Catholic Primary School has embraced a holistic approach to live simply and the pupils demonstrated their commitment through a range of activities, including but not limited to:
The LiveSimply Award is deeply rooted in Catholic Social Teaching and inspired by Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato Si’ and encourages personal transformation. Pupils learn not only about the actions they undertake but also understand the reasons behind them, the impact they have and how faith inspires their involvement.

Hannah, the chaplain from Sacred Heart Catholic Academy, has worked with us to introduce Year 6 to the Faith In Action Award.
Faith In Action rewards young people for their service to their school, parish and community.
Pin Level is for young people of Year 6 age (10/11), or older. It is designed to allow young people to discover how faith shapes lives, thus acting as a stepping stone to the higher award levels.
Having taken early steps in establishing a personal relationship with God, participants begin to see that this relationship has an outward and visible effect upon them and those around them. As they seek to know God better, they become aware that others, of all ages, are trying to do the same. This draws us together in community. Seeking to serve the community helps us discover even more about ourselves, each other and God.
There are four Reflection Points:
LOVE • We Are Loved • Loving Our Neighbour
SERVICE • Building the Kingdom of God • Servant Leadership

In our Prayer and Liturgy assemblies today we celebrated All Saints Day, particularly thinking about the life and example of Blessed Carlo Acutis who did so much in his short life to evangelise and to help the poor. We watched this video from Catholic Youth Ministry Federation.

Fr John celebrated Mass with us on our patronal feast day. Children from Years 5 and 6 led our readings and prayers. We sang songs by John Burland.
On Fri 15th Mar, we held our CAFOD Market Day. This was an opportunity for children to buy from each other and raise money. The infants bought a book, a toy & a cake for £1. Y5 & Y6 devised their own games and activities to run their own stalls for the KS2 children to play in the hall & on the field. Our Market Day raised £2353.60. Thank you very much for your support. This week we welcomed Linda and Jacqueline from CAFOD Liverpool for the our Catholic Social Teaching workshops. Years 1 & 2 listened and responded well to the principles of 'Everyone Is Special' & 'Showing We Care'. Years 3 & 4 also focused on 'Putting People in Most Need First'. Every year during Lent we learn about the work of CAFOD, pray for the people they support and raise money to support their valuable work. On Wed 13th Mar, we held our BIG LENT WALK. For this we asked for a donation of £1 to complete laps of the field. It was a bit drizzly, but we didn't mind.

Fri 23rd Feb is CAFOD Family Fast Day. In assembly, Mrs Morton asked all the children and staff to at least give up a snack and to bring the money as a donation to CAFOD's work.
This film shows CAFOD's work in the fishing community where Aaron lives in Liberia.
If you usually have a take away at the weekend, maybe you could donate the money to CAFOD instead?
It was lovely to begin Lent with Mass celebrated by Fr John. We shall be having Mass at 8am every Wednesday morning during Lent. Parents, carers and parishioners are all welcome. Have you seen the display in our entrance?
Pray together for a different intention each day of Lent, using the CAFOD family prayer intention sheet. As you pray colour in each leaf, everyday from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday. Click/tap the image to download the PDF.
This video explains where the ashes we recieve on Ash Wednesday come from.
To support Year 4's learning in their Come and See topic of Communities,

Well done to our Year 2 children who performed their Advent service to Years 3 to 6 and twice to families.
Orlaith was inspired by her family to write this lovely poem.
We are delighted to be able to share this lovely certificate from CAFOD thanking us for our fundraising this year. Thank you for the support from our families.
In 2020, we achieved the CAFOD Live Simply Award.
We continue our journey to live simply and look after our beautiful world, as Pope Francis has asked us to. In our school life, we:
· ensure we recycle paper
· switch off lights when not in use
· use reusable plastic to carry our lunch
· reuse single-use plastic bottles to make and store
· walk/cycle/scoot to school more often
· no longer using single-use plastic for jelly/ fruit in the kitchen
· letters home are electronic, where possible
· one paper-free day per term
We are working towards being zero-heroes for the environment.
Creator God,
Your world is a wonderful and beautiful place, full of variety, full of wonder, full of life.
Teach us to care for the Earth and help us to build a world that is filled with your goodness.
Amen
In this session, Hannah introduced the Faith In Action Pin Badge level. After discussing the theme of 'We are loved', the children made a card for a family member.
Year 6 learnt about what Jesus said about loving our neighbour and how difficult it can sometimes be. They considered the parable of the Good Samaritan and thought about a modern-day example in the work of Marcus Rashford to enable children to have food during the school holidays..
