Catholic Life and Mission
Great Crosby Catholic Primary aims to make the school a place where the Gospel values of our Lord Jesus Christ are taught, lived and experienced, where prayer and celebrations are integral to life and where religious growth and development are stimulated within the total curriculum to which all can contribute and from which all can gain.
Our Mission Statement
Our mission statement is displayed all over the school and is the foundation of our daily life.
Catholic Social Teaching
Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is rooted in Scripture, formed by the wisdom of Church leaders, and influenced by grassroots movements. It is our moral compass, guiding us on how to live out our faith in the world.
There are nine principles of Catholic Social Teaching:
- Human Dignity - Everyone Is Special
- Solidarity - Showing We Care
- The Common Good - Thinking of Everyone
- Preferential Option for the Poor - Putting People Experiencing Poverty First
- Promoting Peace - Being Peacemakers

Our faith calls us to love God and to love our neighbours in every situation, especially our sisters and brothers living in poverty. Following in the footsteps of Christ, we hope to make present in our unjust and broken world, the justice, love and peace of God.

Live Simply
Great Crosby Catholic Primary School has embraced a holistic approach to live simply and the pupils demonstrated their commitment through a range of activities, including but not limited to:
- creating prayer gardens and celebrating peace days
- visiting and forging strong links with local care homes
- supporting foodbanks and homeless shelters
- campaigning and taking action to speak out against global injustice
- introducing Fairtrade initiatives at school and participating in CAFOD’s Big Lent Walk.
The LiveSimply Award is deeply rooted in Catholic Social Teaching and inspired by Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato Si’ and encourages personal transformation. Pupils learn not only about the actions they undertake but also understand the reasons behind them, the impact they have and how faith inspires their involvement.

Wednesday Morning Lenten Masses
On Wednesday mornings (25th Feb, 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th) at 8am during Lent, Mass will be celebrated by Fr John in the studio. Parents, carers and parishioners are all welcome.
Fri 6th Mar - CAFOD Market Day
On Friday 6th March, we are holding our CAFOD Market Day. This is an opportunity for children to buy from each other and raise money.
The children in Nursery, Reception, Years 1 and 2 will attend the market day in the morning and KS2 will hold it in the afternoon.
Please can we ask that the following items are brought into school on Thursday 5th March to be sold the following day:
Children in Nursery up to Year 4,
please bring in:
Sweets
Cakes (bought only in wrappers for allergen information)
Books (in a good condition)
Toys (in a good condition)
Years 5 and Year 6 devise their own games and activities to run their own stalls. The children in these years need to provide sweets as prizes.
On MARKET DAY, children can wear their own clothes (including football kits) for a donation of 50p and children can bring spending money of up to £3 in a named purse.
Mon 16th - Fri 20th Mar - Big Lent Marathon
This year our Big Lent Walk is a Big Lent Marathon. As part of our fundraising for CAFOD, Miss Sharrock is taking on the London Marathon in April. During the week of 16th - 20th March, all the children in Great Crosby will be taking part in Our Big Lent Marathon. Each of our 26 classes will be completing a one mile run/walk (or thereabouts depending on their year group) with Miss Sharrock meaning that by the end of the week, Great Crosby collectively will have completed a marathon! We are asking for donations for CAFOD to be
sent to school.

CAFOD's Lent calendar emails offer daily prayers and reflections through your Lenten journey, alongside information about ways in which you and the wider CAFOD family can support our ongoing activities.
The daily emails start on Ash Wednesday and end on Easter Day.

This year's CAFOD Lent Family Fast Day is focusing on food production projects in three countries - floating gardens in Bangladesh and South Sudan, to protect crops from floods, and solarpowered water pumps in Zimbabwe, where they suffer from droughts. Please watch the video

Our Prayer and liturgy assemblies this morning were about Easter Sunday and Jesus's resurrection. We also prayed for Pope Francis.

It was a lovely day for our CAFOD Big Lent Walk. Children and staff completed laps of the field throughout the day.
We raised £473.48.
Tue 18th Mar - CAFOD Parliamentary Reception
Mr Cannell joined other CAFOD
volunteers, supporters and staff at Romero House, and then at the CAFOD Parliamentary Reception about the campaign for debt justice. There were a number of speeches and Mr Cannell spoke to his MP Patrick Hurley.

Friday 14th March was our CAFOD Market Day. The children brought in books, games, cakes and toys to sell. Year5 and Year 6 set up stalls & fun activities for our KS2 children. Thank you for all your support.
We raised a fantastic £2545.15.
Mon 10th Feb - Our Lady of Lourdes and Jack Traynor
In our prayer & liturgy assemblies, we were reminded of St Bernadette's visions in Lourdes & learnt about the recent declaration of Jack Traynor's cure as a miracle.
One of our Year 3 pupils brought in a bottle in the shape of Our Lady filled with holy water from Lourdes.

CAFOD and Live Simply
Jan 2025 - Live Simply Anniversary Certificate
We are delighted to be recognised with this certificate marking five years since our CAFOD Live Simply award.
Things we are doing to ‘Live Simply’.
In 2020, we achieved the CAFOD Live Simply Award.
We continue our journey to live simply and look after our beautiful world, as Pope Francis has asked us to. In our school life, we:
· ensure we recycle paper
· switch off lights when not in use
· use reusable plastic to carry our lunch
· reuse single-use plastic bottles to make and store
· walk/cycle/scoot to school more often
· no longer using single-use plastic for jelly/ fruit in the kitchen
· letters home are electronic, where possible
· one paper-free day per term
We are working towards being zero-heroes for the environment.
