Earth Day and Forest School fit together really naturally—they both focus on building a meaningful relationship with the environment.
Earth Day is all about raising awareness of environmental issues like climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss. It often involves activities such as planting trees, cleaning up local areas, and learning about sustainability.
In Forest School, the children made the ‘Earth’ with natural materials, we have reinstated a water butt at the gate for the whole school to empty their water bottles at the end of the day for us to use in the woods.
Children have also been busy caring for our fruit and vegetables that we have planted.
We talked about using our litter pickers to keep our environment clean, even making small changes looking after our earth can make a BIG difference. #Earth Day
Reception children have been busy in Forest School.
As it is Science Week we have been looking at giant Pine Cones.
The children also enjoyed going on a letter hunt,
The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch is between 23rd and 25th January. Children in Forest School have been learning the names of different birds and the sound of bird songs. Birds need us most in the Winter especially if it is really cold, they come into our gardens looking for shelter and food. The children have made bird feeders with pine cones, lard and seed to help them survive in the winter.
Why don’t you record how many birds come to visit your garden and see if you can identify them? Visit https://www.rspb.org.uk/ for details. The Big Garden Birdwatch takes one hour and can be done any time over the three days.
