Holding a pencil correctly requires strong finger and hand muscles. A correct pencil grip will help children to move the fingers, controlling the pencil with efficient finger movements. A great way for children to exercise pencil grip is through art and mark making, where they will learn to draw and follow patterns. Please watch this video to help you.

The Year 2 children in Miss Maguire’s Monday Musical Theatre club have been preparing for the CAPITAL Equality and Diversity Concert since September. Year 2 had a fabulous time when they performed at Mountford Hall last night to a huge audience. The children performed the song Naughty from the musical Matilda. Lots of children from different schools came to spread a message of peace and love.
This exciting opportunity has helped them develop their musical skills, including rhythm, listening and teamwork. They have gained confidence in their ability to perform as part of a group. It has been a fun and creative way to bring music to life. They sang beautifully and made us all feel very proud - Well done to all the children.
Thank you to Stage Door Theatre School in Crosby for letting us borrow the costumes! Thank you to Liverpool Guild for letting us use the venue and to Mrs Woods from St Nicholas for organising the event.
On Thursday 27th March, Year 2 went to visit Croxteth Hall. We were greeted by hall staff at the main entrance and the children were very excited to be greeted by Lord Sefton's butler and Lady Sefton's maid.
The children had a taster of Victorian school life, looked at different Victorian artefacts and had a tour around lots of different rooms in the hall. The children had tick lists of different things they needed to spot and enjoyed searching in the rooms to win the quiz! They also learned about what life was like to work in Croxteth Hall during the Victorian era. The children enjoyed practising holding trays and dressing up as the French chief who used to work in the hall.
We visited the walled garden to look at the different plants and flowers. We spotted some microhabitats and bees! The present walled garden covers 2.5 acres and dates back to 1850. In the second half of the 19th century, the Head Gardener had about 30 trained and apprentice gardeners.
We talked about the purpose of the garden and how it was used to supply Lord and Lady Sefton with fruit and vegetables, including exotic peaches and grapes grown in the Peach House or against the heated flue walls. The children enjoyed counting the chimneys along the wall. We spotted some bird houses and eco friendly bird feeders!
We ended the day with a photo of all the children in Year 2 and showed the staff the banner we made to celebrate the 450th Anniversary of Croxteth Hall!
We had a great day and the children were beautifully behaved. Thank you to all our parents who came to help us and well done to all the children - you made us very proud!
2M enjoyed learning about the planet Mars today when celebrating Mars Day!
This week in Year 2, the children have learned about habitats and microhabitats.
This week has been National Recycling Week.
This afternoon, Year 2 attended a tour of the night sky and the children talked about some of the hidden objects that appear after dark.
Today is World Mental Health Day, and to recognise and celebrate it, all children wore the colour yellow. Our school collection raised £394.
Today in Year 2, we have celebrated National Poetry Day.
The RE topic this half term is called Creation and Covenant. Year 2 children have been learning about what a covenant is.
