CAFOD Club helps Year 4 pupils to take the lead in putting Catholic Social Teaching into action, supporting the Catholic life and mission of our school.
So far we have learnt about the Cancel Debt, Choose Hope campaign, collected money for CAFOD at Nativities and liturgies, and learnt about and selected CAFOD World Gifts.
We are currently coding pictures of nature to be be displayed in the International Space Station on Astro Pi computers as part of the European Space Agency Mission Zero project.
We are also making plans for the CAFOD Big Lent Marathon in school.
Mini Vinnies follow in the footsteps of Christ and St Vincent de Paul.
The Mini Vinnies are the youngest members of the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP), an international Christian voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty in all its forms by providing practical assistance to people in need.
The Mini Vinnies get together in primary schools and parishes across England and Wales to live out their mission of see, think, do, supporting their school community and beyond alongside the SVP. Most Mini Vinnies are between the ages of seven and eleven, but even children as young as five are living out the mission too.

Hannah, the chaplain from Sacred Heart Catholic Academy, has worked with us to introduce Year 6 to the Faith In Action Award.
Faith In Action rewards young people for their service to their school, parish and community.
Pin Level is for young people of Year 6 age (10/11), or older. It is designed to allow young people to discover how faith shapes lives, thus acting as a stepping stone to the higher award levels.
Having taken early steps in establishing a personal relationship with God, participants begin to see that this relationship has an outward and visible effect upon them and those around them. As they seek to know God better, they become aware that others, of all ages, are trying to do the same. This draws us together in community. Seeking to serve the community helps us discover even more about ourselves, each other and God.
There are four Reflection Points:
LOVE • We Are Loved • Loving Our Neighbour
SERVICE • Building the Kingdom of God • Servant Leadership

The Prayer Group meets every Thursday and offers the opportunity for children to pray with and for other children within their school community.
The idea is that if there are children who do not feel comfortable being prayed for or are unable to attend the group, theey can complete a prayer request slip.

Miss Sharrock will be running in the London Marathon on Sunday 26th April raising money for CAFOD. To support her, we shall be holding a Great Crosby’s CAFOD Big Lent Marathon from Monday 16th to Friday 20th March. During the week, Miss Sharrock will run a marathon and children will have the opportunity to run (or walk) a mile with her. This links to CAFOD’s Big Lent Walk which we always support.
CAFOD Club will be helping to organise our school event.
Individuals, families and staff can sign up as well. Click/tap the image above.
The collections at our Nativities raised £347, so we have learnt about and chosen to buy some CAFOD World Gifts:
Water for a family
Teach someone to read
Terrific toilet
Marvellous moo cow
Chirpy chickens
2 Happy queen bees and
Safe at sea.
Jubilee years are a time for rest and renewal and a cancellation of debt. Pope Francis asked the Catholic community to call for urgent and decisive action on the international debt crisis.
One way of committing to our whole school Jubilee Pledge was to join CAFOD’s debt campaign.
CAFOD Club are sending this message calling on the UK government to put a stop to unfair practices that are perpetuating this global economic injustice. CAFOD is advocating for a Debt Justice Law which
would compel private lenders to join in with debt relief processes.
We watched this video and took part in an activity about unfairness.
What is global debt?
54 countries around the world are in debt crisis.
This means they are spending more on paying off debts than on their own healthcare or education systems. Low income countries are relying on private lenders who charge high interest rates and demand fast repayment schedules.
Private lenders are organisations such as banks and investors, including
HSBC and Blackrock.
Failure to reform the system that governs global debt has led to a new debt crisis, but a fairer and more functional global debt system is both necessary and possible.

On Thu 5th Dec, we welcomed Catherine from the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) to talk to Years 4 and 5 about Mini Vinnies. Mini Vinnies live out their mission to ‘See-Think-Do’ helping the school community and beyond to provide practical assistance to people in need.
In this session, Hannah introduced the Faith In Action Pin Badge level. After discussing the theme of 'We are loved', the children made a card for a family member.
Year 6 learnt about what Jesus said about loving our neighbour and how difficult it can sometimes be. They considered the parable of the Good Samaritan and thought about a modern-day example in the work of Marcus Rashford to enable children to have food during the school holidays..

Thu 21st Nov - Our Y4 and Y5 received their Creative Worship badges.
