This parish has a long and illustrious history and many generations have worshipped here over the 120 years of its existence.
The Church is well-known and loved. A fuller history of the church and its artifacts can be found in a pamphlet written by Monsignor John Furnival the current parish priest.
Today it continues to draw large numbers to Sunday mass, baptisms, weddings and, naturally, funerals, in the course of the year.
You can access Mass times and information about the church and parish and also to the weekly newsletter.
Links can be found to other local churches in the area, Pastoral Area activities and ecumenical partnership.

The Church of SS. Peter and Paul on Liverpool Road, Crosby, is a familiar landmark which has been the focus of worship and faith in the local area for more than 120 years.
Completed in 1894, the current building replaced an earlier one that had been constructed in 1826 and which was pulled down to make way for the present larger building at a time of growth and expansion. Bishop Bernard O’Rielly, the then bishop of Liverpool, blessed the foundation stone on the Feast Day of the apostles Peter and Paul, 29th June 1892. Two years in the making, the solid sandstone edifice has stood like a sentinel over the constant comings and goings, developments and changes in this area and community over the years.
The architects, Sinnott and Sinnott, also designed several other churches during that era in the Archdiocese of Liverpool, and the funding for the new church was greatly helped by the donation of £6000 from members of the Nugent family whose benefaction is commemorated on a plaque inside the church. Other benefactors are likewise remembered in the stained glass and decorated stonework throughout the beautiful and welcoming interior.
Countless people have contributed to the up-building of this church, not only in its material aspect but also in the fine liturgical, musical, pastoral and sacramental and social traditions of the life of the church. Their devotion and faithful support will always be appreciated. In what has become, over the years, a ‘family’ church for successive generations who have come here for baptism, weddings, concerts and celebrations, and finally to be laid to rest in its churchyard, Ss. Peter and Paul’s has been for so many a place they call home.

The next planning and preparation meeting will be on Sunday 22nd February at 3.30pm in the Sunshine Room with a cost of £850 per person payable by the end of February 2026. The February meeting will be the last one before the pilgrimage which is from 27th-31st May. Some people have experienced a problem with bank transfers and cheques so please make partial or full payments to: ‘St. Peter and Paul’s Church’ but clearly marked for the Iona Pilgrimage so the money can be ring fenced for that purpose. Any payments now welcome.

The Prayer Circle in our parish is a way of keeping prayers going for the intentions of all in need, especially as it has continued to function during this time of the pandemic. The Prayer Circle is now in its sixth year, and its members pray daily in their own time for three intentions requested and are given new intentions each month. Intentions remain on the list for 6 months.
There is some lovely feed-back from people who have appreciated the prayers. If you would like to be a member and are willing to pray in your own time for three intentions each day, or put in a request for prayers or just find out more about the Prayer Circle then please contact Bernie Callaghan who organises this (and to whom we are very grateful) Contact Tel. 928 2558

Here in the parish we have an active SVP group comprising eight full members who meet in the Sunshine Room on a monthly basis. Six members visit 12 people at home or in residential care, with one member providing lifts to church for a couple of people One member volunteers at the Trussel Trust Food Bank and Pantry. Two members volunteer at the Irenaeus Centre at 32 Great Georges Road, Waterloo, helping with the food cupboard and offering refreshments and a chat to those who call in there. Another member shops, cooks, and serves meals at a parish hub. One member volunteers at a local school, assisting primary school children with their reading. Another member makes weekly visits to prison to meet and talk with prisoners. On the first weekend of the month the SVP collect money after the Mass on Saturday night/Sunday morning and distribute donations on a quarterly basis for the following needs: Vinnie Packs (cold weather essentials for homeless people), Christopher Grange residential care home for the visually impaired), the SVP Hardship Fund, St. Nicholas’ Boys Camp and the parish of St. James. Consideration is also given to needy local causes on an indivudual basis. There is the intention to trial the use of a card reader as an alternative to cash donations in the near future. If anyone would like to join the parish SVP in this good work please contact Father John.
